Title: Outside the U.S. Divorces
Question:
I want to know what the name of city, place, phone number in Mexico
for divorcing because I heard a few people said that in Mexico it is
easy for getting divorce. Thank you very much. Please let me know
ASAP.
Answer:
Mexican divorces aren't that easy. Divorce is an involved process in Mexico. Your state may not recognize the divorce (http://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/rulings/oasi/53/SSR62-37-oasi-53.html). Domican Republic divorces are advertised also (http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Divorce/index.html) but again you need to check to see if your state would recognize it.
I think that I would talk to an attorney I trusted or to the local clerk of the court's office to see if your state would recognize a divorce from a foreign country. Also check the cost of a divorce. It may surprise you that it isn't much more expensive in your own area.
Another alternative, if there aren't many assets or children involved, is to go to a paralegal and have the paperwork drawn up and then have an attorney review it. You can find an attorney at http://www.divorcesource.com/
The problems that could occur by not having proper legal advice could be immense. Divorce, like marriage, isn't something that one should try to do quickly or cheaply. One need valid legal advice in their own state. I am not an attorney but I read horror stories daily from people who didn't get good advice or tried to do things themselves and wish they had consulted an attorney, which is the most prudent thing to do.
