Title: Credit Problems
Question:
My ex has left me in great financial troubles. I applied for a bank loan
to buy a house and was told that the credit report showed a lot of bills
which I understood she assumed after the divorce. What do I do?
Answer:
There are great programs all over the US that are called Consumer Credit
Counseling Service. To find one in your area take a look at the web site
http://www.nfcc.org/
Basically you need to get in or and sort out what legally you can do after
the divorce took place. You also will be helped to provide information to
the people who have you listed on the report in error. It is usually a
good idea after a divorce to run a credit report on yourself, which the
Credit Counseling Service can help you do and find out if there are errors.
I have read that some people predict as high as 30% of credit reports have
errors or even information which isn't related to you.
Financial troubles after a divorce occur. You can work yourself back out
of them with proper counseling.
