Title: Money for Lawyers - Alimony Modification
Question:
I currently live in Florida, my ex-wife and i just completed a 2 yr court
case on modification of alimony. The court reduced the alimony in half due
to the fact her live in boy friend of 5 yrs has contributed to her
financially. Now 3 months later she is now taking me back to court to raise
the alimony back up. Her boyfriend is still with her. The bad part of the
story is that I had to pay 4/5 of her lawyer fees,, plus my own, for a total
of 31,000 over a two year period. Isn't there something a person can do to
stop this, the only ones winning is the lawyers.
Answer:
It is so easy to blame the lawyers for charging all the money to mediate
between two people. Listen to yourself, it has taken 2 years for you and
your wife to agree on alimony. AND you've spent 31,000 during that
timeframe. My question to you - was it worth the fight? Any way you
both could have come into an agreement?
You can't blame the lawyers - it is each couple/person - that decides to
fight "because of the principle"! Lawyers are just representing the two
of you - you both made the decisions to fight.
Sorry, this might not have been the answer you were looking for...
