Title: Joint Credit Cards- Who is Responsible?
Question:
If I have my name removed from mine and my husband's joint credit card
accounts, will I still be held responsible for the payments?
Answer:
Everyone (male & female)going through a divorce needs to contact IN
WRITING, ALL of their credit card companies or any other debt contracts.
You need to let them know that you and your spouse are divorcing and the
agreement is ....
In this letter you should also close the account (yes, you are still
equally liable for the debt) and if you want open a new one under your
name only.
BUT, I must warn you if either spouse stops those payments the credit
card companies can come after the other one for the total amount. But,
at least you won't be liable for any other incurred expenses after this
letter. Make sure you send it certified mail so you can have a signed
copy from the company if you think this will become a hassle with your ex.
Pick up my book "When the Vows Break: Living Through Separation &
Divorce" it will help you with the above questions plus how to join
support groups which you need to do! If you can't find it in your local
bookstore call my toll free number 888-267-3929 PIN #7176.
