Title: Should I Plan on Getting a Divorce?
Question:
It has been a very difficult 15 yr. marriage. There has been drug usage,
alcohol usage(extensive) verbal abuse and extramarital affairs(including one
time when my husband contracted a venereal disease). I stayed out of fear,
lack of an education(which I am working on now), and the thought that if I
stay it is best for the children. I believe now that I was wrong. I need to
file for divorce and really don't know what will happen in my case. I feel the
kids and I have suffered long enough and am afraid that it will be worse. What
should I file for, do I have to prove allegations of abuse etc., what can I
expect financially. The kids are 12 and 14. I have an attorney whom I gave a
250.00$ dep. to, I am trying to save funds from my 139.00 p/wk unemployment as
I was fired by my mother in law for whom I worked p/t for the past 10 yrs.am
also going to school p/t to get a degree so I can get a job. Please advise.
Answer:
Yes, Yes, Yes! Women DON'T have to put up with abuse of any kind for the
sake of the children! We do our children more harm by staying in these
type of marriages! Look at the example that you are setting. If you
have any sons they are going to think that it is OK to "abuse, screw
around, and use drugs"! After all daddy did it and mom excepted it!
I am glad that you have decided to do something for yourself as well as
your children. You have done the correct thing by contacting your
attorney! Look in your community and see if there are any agencies that
can help you - your attorney should also be able to help!
