Can I request that my separation agreement contain a provision for medical insurance coverage?

Yes, you may contract to do so, as long as all the requirements of a valid contract are present. You may question doing this, because you would be relying on your ex-spouse for your health and well being. Often in the separation agreement, included on a temporary basis for a set period of time, at which point the receiving spouse would be encouraged to get his or her own medical insurance.

You could say:

The husband agrees to provide the wife, for (an amount of time) after the execution of this agreement or until the death of the husband or the wife, or the wife’s remarriage – whichever comes first – medical insurance the same or similar to that currently provided by the husband.
