Does domestic violence correlate with unemployment?

Unemployment is a stress factor in any marriage and even dating relationships. It stands to reason that a man who is unemployed may experience higher levels of frustration and disappointment. However, many, if not most, unemployed men do not vent their frustration and disappointment on their wives or girlfriends.


Studies suggest that domestic abuse occurs at the same rate throughout all socioeconomic classes. Abuses have been doctors, lawyers, business professionals, scientists, and even judges, as well as police officers, sports figures (O.J. Simpson), and entertainment personalities (Ike Turner).
