Is an arbitrator like a judge?

In some ways, yes, in that in a trial a judge is the decision maker – that is, he or she decides on the merits of the case and renders a verdict. In arbitration, the arbitrator is the decision maker. The arbitrator will hear both sides of the dispute, make a decision, and issue a ruling.
