Is forced sex considered domestic violence?

Forced sex, even between a married man and woman, is domestic violence. Many men labor under the delusion that they cannot be found guilty of raping a wife. Under common law, it was true that a husband could not be guilty of the rape of his wife, but this is no longer true. If a husband forces his wife to have sex, or makes her do things during sex that make her uncomfortable, she may be a victim of domestic violence. As part of the psychological dominance of the victim, an abuser will often demand sex when the victim is sick, tired, or asleep.


In addition to his gratification, forced sex is a way of asserting control over a wife.
