The First Time You Go To Court
(Provided by Tomi Tuel, Author of 101 Things I Learned After My Divorce)

Before you can have any “firsts after your divorce”, you must bless the process with a court appearance. This is by far the most uncomfortable first. Sitting before a judge with your spouse is never easy. The only thing reassuring about the gala event is you are part of a cattle call. On our court date there was a room full of other divorcing couples. It was an eye-opener, because you realize it is just another day in court for the judge and if he/she can get through most of them by lunchtime it will be a good day. You hope for an empathetic judge, but realize family court judges have heard it al. It is a humbling experience and one you never wish to repeat.
