What are some of the benefits of mediation?

A mediated divorce is usually much cheaper than a traditional, adversarial divorce, even including the cost of a private mediator. Since the couple will negotiate the issues during the mediation, time is not spent arguing under the formal rules of court.

Mediation is generally faster than traditional litigation. Not only will a couple be able to schedule a mediation session many months before their case would come to trial, but the mediation sessions themselves generally take less time than a case in court.

Also, people who have used mediation are generally very happy with the outcome. People feel better about the decision that is reached through mediation. They feel a greater sense of participation, and a sense of accomplishment, that will carry over into the actual performance of the duties as hammered out during mediation.
