What do we do when we reach an agreement through mediation?

You should "reduce your agreement to writing," to what is called a divorce settlement agreement. You should also have your lawyer look over your agreement prior to signing it. This way you can make sure you have not inadvertently signed away some rights you later wish you had not.

Some mediators are lawyers at which point they have the ability to draft the settlement agreement for you and your spouse. As this may seem convenient, many mediators (even if they are also lawyers), will recommend that you seek a lawyer to draft the agreement.
