What happens when one person becomes involved with someone else during a separation?

When a couple separates on a trial basis to think about the direction of the marriage, they are still legally married. They do not have a legal separation that is a preliminary to divorce. Therefore, when one spouse becomes involved with someone else during a trial separation, he or she commits adultery.
