Who runs the mediation? Is it the parties or the mediator?

To a large extent, the parties (you and your spouse) run the mediation. You decide what the subject will be, what is to be said, and what to do. The mediator is there to listen and make sure that everyone’s views are heard and that the negotiation runs smoothly.

In no way does a mediator control the outcome of your disputes. He or she will only aid in the negotiation process, which will help you make your own decisions. Do not expect a mediator to solve your problems, instead they help you realize what they are and guide you through the process as you and your spouse work through the problems together.
