My cousin just found out that after 13 years her divorce was not legal because she didn't ever receive a letter of dissolution. Now I filed for my own divorce by default in August. My divorce was granted and supposed to be final on the 10th of this month. My question is that I have a request of dissolution and the notice of entry of judgment. I do not however have a letter of dissolution. I filed for divorce on my own without a lawyer. What is a letter of dissolution and do I need one?
The court (judge) has to sign it for it to be legal. So, you can get a copy of the court's order for dissolution from the county recorder's office. If they don't have it, perhaps the judge didn't sign it.
