I found this forum today while I was doing some research. My husband and I of 10 years are getting a divorce. It is mutual and we want it to be as easy as possible. Instead of having to pay money to a lawyer, we want to have an uncontested divorce and work thorugh everything ourselves. Does anyone have any advice or websites that would help with this or where to get started? Everyone keeps telling me to get a lawyer but at this point I don't think it's necessary. It's him and I, we do not have any kids and we don't have a lot of assets to divide. Most we have already agreed upon. Thank you for any advice that you can offer.

I've heard OfficeMax has a kit for about $70. Eventually you will need an attourney, but only for filing fees, if you correctly fill out the paperwork, and you may not end up needing one. I wish I knew a website. I know in Chicago there are billboards advertising divorces for under $300. I have a friend who did it, and was very happy with how fast and easy it was. Maybe enter "cheap divorces in Indiana", in the search engine and see what you get. Good Luck. Worst case scenerio, is you each retain a lawyer and since it's an uncontested divorce you pay minimal fees. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

You situation sounds like ours. We wanted to end your relationship with at least some dignity. We are using one attorney we found one that likes to do none contested divorces and has done many with the Judges in our area. We met with him 2 times and are about done. I Think she would have divorced me years ago if she new how easy it was going to be this easy

fsanders,
My former husband and I had been married for 25 years when I filed. We had a home and all the trappings that go with it. We however did not wish to pay the high cost of an attorney, when we were in agreement on how everything would be split.
What we did was use a legal aide office. We wanted to be sure all the "t's" had been crossed and the "i's" dotted.
They gathered our information and took care of the paperwork and filing for us. Neither of us stepped foot in the courts.
It was all very civilized and a heck of a lot cheaper than hiring attorney's. If the two of you know how you want to divide what you have, you can use a legal service to file the necessary documents for you.
