Hello, I read the few posts here but still figured I would post a new question.
In 2001 I got married to a local NM resident woman and moved to the states from Norway where I am originally from. In 2003 the marriage didnt work out and I left and moved back. Due to circumstances I didnt get time to file papers with the court/state. As she wanted the divorce I told her that was fine, and that I would sign papers as long as I got them. But I havent heard from her since.
Now I would like to find out if I am still married, and if there is any place I could check my martial status. I never became a permanent resident and figured that might automatically cause the system to divorce us perhaps?
Doing this from Norway is a bit hard also, so if anybody can recommend any lawyers that can help that would be good as well. I contacted those on the nmbar.org site which reside in Las Cruces where we lived before we got separated. But there were very few.
Does anybody know if these papers can be filed by me directly even though I dont live in NM (or the US) anymore?
