I grew up in Idaho. When my parents got divorced, the law required joint custody. In fact, neither parent could relocate out of the state without permission from the other parent or a court order.

I'm getting ready to file for divorce in Oregon. I have been separated from my husband for almost 2yrs and my daughter has always lived with me. Does anyone know if joint custody is required in Oregon. If not, are there laws in place to prevent my military husband from relocating my daughter?

>>>>>>>>>> There is a presumption of " frequent and continuing contact with parents who have shown the ability to act in the best interest of the child and to encourage parents to share in the rights and responsibilities of raising their children after the parents have separated or dissolved their marriage" . Joint custody is not required although sometimes it must be proven that joint custody is not in the " best interest of the child " .

>>>>>>>>>>> Stipulations ( legal agreements ) can be included in the custody arrangement preventing either party from relocating without the other parent's or a judge's approval . There are also state statutes concerning child relocation .
