My ex has been telling the children this weekend that when they turn 12, they can choose where they live. Is this true?

We were divorced on grounds of adultry (him) while I was pregnant with our second child. I have full custody of the children (ages 10 and 6) and was allowed to relocate to Florida two years after our divorce for a new job and to remarry. He sees the kids each month and 4 weeks of the summer. My kids are confused and upset and I've never heard this before.

Thanks...

Some states allow judges to interview children over 12 and take what they learn from that into consideration when making custody rulings.

Your ex is misinformed and is putting the kids in the middle. Let your children know that these are adult decisions and they'll be made by grownups.

My ex tells my children the same thing. There is no set age limit. How did you go about asking permission to move to Florida? We may move from SC to FL but worried about what my ex will try to do.

It was all God. My family is all in SC. But my children were very young and my company offered me a promotion in Florida. My fiance also lived in the same town where the new job would be (see what I mean!) It was also an opportunity for me to remarry. After agonizing weeks waiting for the judge to make a ruling - we got the ok. We had to present affidavits stating I was the primary caregiver, etc. He sued for custody which was a joke since he left us when I was pregnant with #2. Nevertheless, we have to drive to SC each month for a long weekend visitation and 4 weeks in the summer. I hope that helps.
