Hi, I am new here and just recently separated from my husband of 17 years and have 4 children. We are headed for divorce. I have been a mom for 15 years and have not worked the whole time. My husband makes around $8000 a month and says that $1500 would be sufficient for CS and Alimony. I am planning on getting a job but I will not be able to make enough to make ends meet and I still have small children at home. Am I entitled to more than that? Please help! Thanks
I ran your numbers through an online calculator, and CS should be $1834/month minus medical insurance premiums. Alimony varies greatly from state to state. His net income will be about $4800 a month, as he will have to file single from now on, and after CS, there will be about $3000 left. If there is daycare, he will be responsible for 1/2, so that decreases the pot to draw alimony from. You could get alimony for a fair amount of time, but it would most likely be quite low. You would need a local attorney to get more accurate information.
