I have been married for more than 13 years, but he has had plenty of affairs which I did not find out til a while back. After I told him I would like to get a divorce .... he said go ahead you get nothing ........ he is retired, plus there is a steady income, he says I could always apply for welfare and food stamps ........ so I wonder if that is true that some funds are not touchable or that if you can hide the income somehow ??

thanks Lights

No it is not untouchable. Inheritances are about the only thing. I would consult a lawyer. You will do better than you think. He is a jerk and you do not have to put up with that.

Kick his ass!!

also what about health care and so ....?
can I use his affairs in the courts ?

If all his wealth predates the marriage or if you signed a prenup then you may well get nothing. Most of us bread winners don't know what we're in for until divorce.

As far is getting started, unfortunately, the way it's usually done is you raid your joint accounts. If you're an upstanding citizen, you'll take no more than half.

well, nope I would not do this but I would be fair to a point even thougt he is not....but there must be some way to set yourself up .......like saving some $$ for the lawyer and/or making sure you could replace the needed things when ness., I could make some xtra $$$ on side and use that or would that be also half his ....? I just really wondered if there is a way to get into this with a little heads up .....so it would be so easy for him

thanks again
Lights
