Also, our situation is somewhat complicated. For starters:
(1) We have a 5 year old son. We've agreed on 50/50 joint physical and legal custody.
(2) She has property but I've agreed to let her have it all.
(3)I'm currently deployed in Iraq and won't be home for good until around July this year. I will be home on 2 weeks vacation in February though.
We were trying to do the paperwork ourselves but there are complications as I mentioned above. I would like to find someone who's not a lawyer (but perhaps a paralegal) and know's divorce law in the San Mateo county pretty well. A phone number to call them with initially (it's difficult to get phone access here in Iraq but it's possible). And discussions via email about issues we need to consider along the way. As I said before, I will be home in February temporarily and can meet face to face with the paralegal/consultant for issues that require me to be present.
There are such services in the phone book in my part of the bay area, (central contra costa). All they do is the paperwork. YOur wife should be able to line it up in your area?
