yes, you will be liable for half if she ran them up during the marriage and bought household stuff, stuff for the kids, vacations together, etc. debt accrued during the marriage is almost always split.

Well, if he gave you 20k each, then you are still even. So it doesn't really matter. Especially if you can prove 20k was in her name and 20k in yours. Having said that, she may still try to fight for the 40k off the top, but in Florida I doubt she will win unless she can prove that the money was JUST for her and not for both of you for the house.
