Hi, I know adultery is a ground for divorce in the state of Illinois. However, is it punishable by law?

In reading Illinois divorce laws, it is considered grounds for a divorce but not in the dispersment of assets. In other words, men loose their shorts. I haven't found any reference to whether or not it is punishable by law but would be interested to know if someone knows where to find out.
I have a similar situation with my wife of 36+ years having interludes with a man(men?). In addition, I strongly believe there are people other than her male friend(s)interested in our assets. I know her best friend of 15 years has pushed her into getting involved with the other man, she has a pet jocker named Dennis. I believe that she and plan B is planning on conning money out of my wife after the settlement. Sounds paranoid, but you have not heard the conversations I have. My lawyer tells me it doesn't make a difference, I will loose at least half if not more and there isn't a thing I can do about it. The lawyer is rated highly but his statement leaves me cold.
The marriage was less than ideal but I really don't know of one that is. Everybody has their ups and downs. We are blessed in many ways. Our children are successful and a glorious Granddaughter that I am very proud of. Now this, seven years from retirement. One saving grace in this ordeal is my kids are with me 100% and are appauled at her actions and words.
It seems laws are in place to protect criminals, not victims. I have abandoned my dreams of retirement, and the days of quality time I would have spent with my wife. Work until I drop is the new plan. Hard to take.
Sorry to ramble on, have a good evening.

I think in cases of adultry you have to prove it. Maine my state it is grounds but why put myself through the proving part. Even if you know do ya really want to know more? If its over split it 50/50. It's only money/materialistic sh*t antway. If the marriage is over does it really matter to you? My stbx can have everything I honestly do not care....Sorry, had drinks..Rox

Illinois is no fault....much more easier...especially on the wallet...if you sue them on grounds of adultry...it could break you finacially...I was married for 39yrs...he still has bank accounts with his mother and checks with their names on them....I give up...she will never let go...and he is beyond stupid for doing this....beating me did'nt help either....so long to my life as I thought...he is retired...and living with his beloved wife..his mother....All I want is for this to be over...the divorce....It feels like adultery..he has another women in his life for our whole marriage..I was abandoned..

I think if you look under illinois state divorce laws it does state that it is a criminal offense but it is so common i was told that it is not enforced. In the state of Ohio I was told that if the spouce is caught cheating the states att. takes over and the other spouce has no say in it anymore and it is convictable. That was from a talk show so you may want to check that as well. It is also considered sexual abuse. is
