Am I nuts with this deal?

My (hopefully) soon to be X and I have been seprated for the past 1.5 years. We first tried to do a dissolusion, but we could never settle because she wants all holidays with our only child, full costody, no shared parenting, Child support between 1-2k per month, and alimony double of that until she dies.

After going the dvc route, i now have multiple simultaneous cases running (dvc, appeal on temp orders, and custody). This has racked up on her side, over 15k in attorney fees, and over 5 for mine. Her attorney is petitioning the courts to have me pay for all her fees, i'm in contempt for not pay all of back alimony which was way above what I was paying to cover all of her bills (which I diligently paid each month). It's moving nowhere.

My wife & I have been together for 20 years. She worked and was paid well until our son was born, who is under 10 years old. She does not have a degree, but is very intelligent. I have an undergrad and working on masters. So, of course I'm getting screwed for all of my hard work. I put myself through college, worked during my udergrad.

So, here's the "Deal"
she wants 15 years, same cash amounts or until remarry.
The child issues are resolved -Only if I settle on the length of alimony.

Is this nuts? or in line with what the courts would do anyway?

Oh, plus I still have to pay her legal fees.

That really suck man. My wife just recently filed, if this is what I have to look forward to it,s going to be a long long time before I can get anywhere.
I am completely against alimony, that should have dispeared with the feminist movement. My heart goes out to you.

I hope you didn't take that deal. I recently got divorced after 22 years of marriage, 17 of them spent being a stay at home mom. I ended up getting only 7 years of alimony and child support was "reduced" by calculating an amount of money that I should have been earning had I been in the market (hah after 17 years off!). Also, I had to pay my own legal fees -- no one every suggested having them paid for by my ex. I hope you can come to a more agreeable financial settlement.
