My husband and I have been married 10 years. Or are we? We thought so but now are questioning whether we are or not because of the time frame in relationship to his divorce. His exwife and he went before the judge and the divorce was "granted". Is there a waiting period for it to be "final" in Cincinnati? If so, what is the time frame? We are going to "quietly" get remarried if it proves out that we are not "legal", as we do not want anything to jump up and get the other one at some inopportune moment, like death. Thanks so much! Oh...divorce is really the wrong word..it was a dissolution of marriage.

Go to the courthouse where the divorce/dissolution was granted and ask to see a copy of the judgement/record. The date is was granted is the official date - period. As long as you got married after that date - there is no issue.

I have a question too and hope someone can help me. I filed for divorce and the lawyer sent the papers cetified mail to my soon to be ex and copies to his lawyer. If the soon to be ex doesn't sign for and pick up the certified papers what happens? Does that void the case? Does that look bad for him? It sure seems like everything is in his favor. He has a new girlfriend, who has a nicer house and he's living there for free, he "lost" his job but he has a new truck. He just has a free ride and I'm stuck trying to figure out how to pay for the house, utilities, food, medical insurance etc etc and he is just having a good old time. I sure don't understand. And in Ohio I can't even use the fact that he's living with another woman and has been having an affair with her for over a year against him!!
