We got married shortly after. My question - since my name is NOT on the house - will I walk away with nothing??? I have a terrible lawyer that told me, basically, I'm screwed. How long were you married? How long did he own the house before the wedding? Did he ever live in it by himself? What state do you live in? The house is in both names so he has full entitlement. If it was under mine only, it is considered my property not his. A name on a deed is cruicial in court.
