Not sure where to post this, but I am in need of some different opinions. I have been looking at a legal directory where lawyers and judges rate other lawyers on their ethics and experience. I am wondering if these peer reviews of AV, BV, and CV, have any real bearing on the competence of an attorney. I have met with a couple of lawyers and the one I felt most comfortable with had the lowest peer review rating of a CV. Should the peer review rating have an influence over which attorney to hire or should you go with your gut feeling instead?
id love to see a rating of attys, where did you find this?

I had a friend who helps divorcing couples mediate their financial settlement and then post-decree financial plans. She gave me two great referrals to lawyers. A word-of-mouth personal referral from someone inside the industry trumps any other source, IMHO.
BTW, my divorce is final. I was awarded sole custody and didn't have to pay spousal support despite an income six times greater than me ex. Now THAT'S a great lawyer- and he did it with complete integrity.
Sounds like you had a very good attorney. I agree “word-of-mouth personal referral from someone inside the industry trumps any other source.” Since my original post, I interviewed several attorneys and it was an inside referral that convinced me on which attorney I should retain. It is early days yet, but so far she has impressed me very much. I heard too from another professional source that her litigation skills are excellent. I am hoping that it doesn’t get that far, but it is good to know that I have an experienced attorney looking out for my interests. Although it is a sad fact that attorneys can make plenty of money out of people’s misfortunes, I do believe that seeking the right attorney in a divorce case is one of the biggest investments you are likely to make. You’ve got to take your time and do your research.
