i filed for divorce and had an attorney. he wanted more and more money without doing anything that i could see. i am now out of money. sent him a letter telling so. he sent letters to judge and hubbys lawyer and told them. now hubbys lawyer has asked for a scheduling conference. What is that????? i saw 2 divorce settlement forms already and refuse to sign either one as i do not agree with them. what happens now????? thanks.

A scheduling conference is where the lawyers , clients and judge ( or the judge's representative ) schedule future hearings , depositions , etc . If you cannot afford an attorney , consider asking for mediation to try to work out an agreement you can both live with . If that's impossible , you'll need to either proceed pro se or get another attorney . You can ask , depending on the circumstances , that your spouse pay your legal fees .

I paid my attorney over $20,000 over the past 2 years. My divorce has been final for a year now and I still do not get the tuition and child support that my ex was ordered to pay. The court also ordered my ex to pay some of my attorney fees. My ex has not paid ANYTHING. I am now proceding on my own. Check with a women's support organization. Some of them offer legal services at greatly reduced rates. That's what I'm doing now. Good Luck!!!!

obviously i understand if you dont wish to answer but how much do you make that you can fork out 20K for an atty? I have an avg home that is run down and made avg wages and i would have to stop dead in my tracks if my atty costs me more than 4K (the amount on my visa left). Id have to stay married or just cry i guess

The conference is just a meeting in which the judge is brought up to speed on the case and will likely schedule the next hearing. What happens now is the case will go forward with your ex paying out of pocket for representation while you have no legal fees. If it's a simple case, you will have the upper hand because the ex's share is getting eaten away by the fees. The ex will have incentive to settle because each day that goes by is more out of the ex's pocket.

Mine cost more than double that, $45,000.00 in attorneys fees. Charged it to credit cards then filed Chap. 13.
