Married 11 years. He was selling motorcycles and working as a security guard when we met, making about 24K. He wasn't able to work maintenance/electrical work because of a permanent ankle injury. As an RN and massage therapist I helped him rehabilitate his ankle and he became an electrician. He promised to increase his income so I could have a baby or adopt and I would work parttime to provide the insurance. His income fluctuated. 7 or 8 years ago he decided he couldnt work because of lung damage from smoking and construction work and arthritis. He wouldn't work at a convenience store because they didn't pay enough. Soc. Security denied him for 5 years, he finally won with an atty but has spent his settlement and my 401K. He has very poor financial judgement. He sleeps all the time and watches tv and does almost nothing around the house except collect junk cars, tires, hubcaps, scrap metal, etc. I feel I have been emotionally and financially sucked dry. I gave up a lot of my dreams including being a mother. But, I want to get past my regrets over the past and get on with my life. My income is 70k and his SS disability income is 22k. He thinks he is entitled to spousal support. We live on 5 acres in a MH (no equity). The MH is in such disrepair it could not be sold. I think we have enough $avings to make it livable before we split up. I'm so sad. I definitely want a divorce. But I don't want to continue supporting him. Help.

What is it that is fostering such a sense of entitlement in non-royals these days?

Leave now. Take your savings. File for the divorce. Give him the mobile home and don't look back.

He is already being supported by the man. You are not required to support him. I strongly suggest you get a lawyer to help you if pushes for it.

If the income figures you gave were in U.S. dollars, you don't have any kids and you are living like that, I would say you have bigger problems than just your husband!

Perhaps a huge dope habit?
