This is a story so theatrical, painfully soppy and profound. ...It must be fiction. ....It's true. "The First Girl I Ever Kissed" ...a short-story from Jubral. It was 2:00am and I was 14 years-old asleep. In the Summer, no school, ...like 80 degrees in Georgia at 2am. The phone rings. I get-up and answer it and there's this girl saying "Your cows are in our garden!" (...you know, "but I don't have any cows." puntchline--"well we ain't got no garden!" Ha Ha , right. I grew up on a dairy. I'm outside on a cordless phone putting my boots on asking "Who is this? Is there a gate open?" Long story short. She was 16 and babbysitting with a friend a half mile down the road. She dialed the number by chance. I was 14 and she had a car! Heard her voice for under an hour, no idea who she was. She drove to my house and I snuck out and we kissed in the driveway. Breathtakingly beautiful. Never saw her again. But remember her name. If anybody else can come "close" to a first-kiss story as that, I will call you "Sir." |
