Here's the thing, EZ: in the world we live in, like it or not, there are a lot of people who assume that a woman should be primary caregiver just because of her plumbing. and whether it's an unfair stereotype or not, there are a lot of men who seem happy to allow that to happen, worrying only about their child support bills being too high. The best way to combat these awful and ridiculous stereotypes is with education, letting people see the truth, the fact that men these days really WANT to help with the homework & are NOT as inept as Mr. Mom when handling the daily chores involved in parent-hood. It's important to let people, particularly the ones who seem to ahve the odd impression that women deserve primary parening just because of their plumbing, that there are a whole lot of reasons out there for doing things otherwise, and reasons why doing a more equal time proposition is better for the children in the long run. There are people whose agendas are obvious and fixed and they cannot learn something new, but for the ones who are open to new ways of thinking, being short or nasty about it or sarcastic doesn't really help. Im saying that if you have a more complete and detailed answer, without engaging the more closed minds on the forum in a sparring match over it... giving your story about why you want more parenting time and more parenting responsibility might help. |
