Does he have to pay?

My son recently got into some trouble with the law. He is required to take some classes and pay a fine of $500.00 The classes will add up to $900.00 when all is said and done. Is there a way to make my ex pay for half of this?

Your ex is responsible for $0, as are you. Don't pay it for your son......sometimes the best lessons in life are the toughest. Let him figure out how HE is going to get though the mess HE made.

My son is a minor and the court says that we are liable for this debt. Or I guess I am since I am the primary custodial parent. So I feel that he should have to pay half.

I don't think that a court will order him to pay.
But you can make your child reimburse you by getting a job and paying you back in installments.
