Property Division in Short Term Marriage

Hi
Can anyone answer this question for me? I have a rather complicated problem. My husband and I have lived together for 8 years and have been married for 5. When we married the house was his and he never put my name on the deed. I would give him my paycheck each week to deposit, he used to hide the bills from me and tell me he was paying them. He wasn't. He would also unplug the phones so I couldn't see the caller ID or get messages from bill collectors. After I discovered what was going on I told him he had to start sharing the bill paying with me or I wasn't going to give him my payroll checks anymore. After 3 months of no repsonse from him I opened my own checking and savings account to force him to discuss the bills with me. He still woudln't. So I did all the grocery shopping, paid my credit card bills that he would give to me and bought things for the house. Last year I took over the bill paying and started to pay utilities and other bills but his check would pay the mortgage.
We are now in the process of selling the house prior to our divorce. Does anyone know if I'm entitled to any of the proceeds from the sale?
Thank You

Re: Property Division in Short Term Marriage

Hawaii is not a community property state. It is not cut and dried. If you could demonstrate you shared the mortgage payment and other costs assiciated with the house, you would be entitled to, at most, half the increase in equity over the 5 years.
