Hello, I am wondering who is usually responsible for the "household bills" during the period between filing and final decree, such as; utilities, taxes, insurance, etc? There is no mortgage to worry about. We are not sure which one of us is going to stay in the house yet, but either one of us can afford these on our own if that is the normal way. Would it be the same from the time of one of us moving out but not yet having filed as it would be once we file until the final hearing? Our state is WI if that matters. Thanks, DKC |

Usually the person paying the bills now will continue to pay them until the divorce is final. The status quo is usually continued until the big day. There is no law that says either of you have to leave. You can both live in the house, though that would suck. You have to get a temporary hearing... even uncontested divorces can go on 6 months. |

usually it's the status quo. if you dont work and your stbx pays the bills that iwll continue. if you do work and both of you pay the bills that will continue. if YOU work and your stbx doesnt YOU pay the bills. |

I wish that was the status quo here taryn...I don't work but stbx does and has always paid those then just quit paying them. If I didn't pay for utilities with c.s. we would be really in trouble, no lights or water and no online friends to help me. lol |

DKC, in my sitch, me and mt STBX still live in the same house. I pay all of the bills until my D becomes final (I filed in Oct 07). Since I considered us separated a year ago, I will be asking for (Epstein) credits to have my STBX pay for one half of the bills I have been paying since being separated. She is basically using the house as a place to lay her head while she continues to "play with her male friend." I am living like a "head of household" dad taking care of everything until our D is done (hopefully in the next month). |

My arrangement was 75-25. My STBX made 25% of the household income so we figured out the bills as of when I was about to leave then I paid her 75% each week (my driving force was keeping things "normal" for the kids). I also have been paying on an equity loan since it was being drawn from my check anyways. I took on a third job t pay my bills. It has been hard but sometimes being really busy has helped me. Yes there is some quilt involved also. |
