extensions on d.papers

Hi there! As you can all tell I'm sure, I'm a newbie.

My question is: Does anyone know of a way to file a response for an extension to the divorce papers I was served without having to use an attorney. I am not working right now and my husband has cut me off financially since he had me served 1 week ago. We have since then found an amazing marriage recovery retreat that we are going to be attending at the end of April. However, I am to respond before that date.

My hope is that we will go to this retreat and he will stop the divorce proceedings, but I need a way to delay the paperwork going through the courts. I am not contesting anything in the papers I was served as he was very fair in all of it's context. Would just like to buy some time....

If anyone has any ideas of how I can do this with VERY little/no money, I would appreciate your advice!

Thank you much!!

Re: extensions on d.papers

File one of two things:

Either :
Respond to the petition one paragraph at a time.

File a Motion in the Court saying you want the extension to try to go through marriage counseling. The marriage counseling should postpone the case for 90-180 days.

Thank you for your advice. I will go to the courts tomorrow. I'm assuming with doing that I will only have to pay the filing fee!?!?
