Just another case of where the system is literally broken. DNA proves the child is not his, and the girl's mother even filed an affadavit saying he is not the father, yet the state feels the need to still go after the man. Why? Because the time passed for him to contest the paternity EVEN THOUGH he didn't get the paperwork until AFTER the deadline passed. So not only was his constitutional rights trampled on, but the "system" still insists on throwing salt in the wounds. Utterly sickening to think we live in a country where freedom rings, yet one class of honest, law-abiding citizens are treated as criminals.

About 5 years ago, the state of CA got a law passed through the senate and HR, so that those duped out of CS (and proven by DNA) could stop making payments. At that time there were over 5000! The governor however, vetoed the bill, saying that if passed, the CS agencies would fall far out of collection compliance, and would lose some federal monies. How crazy is that?

So lets say that all of this money is more than you can pay for the rest of your life? Will Jail change your train of thought? I mean if you go to jail for not paying vs murder what is the least amount you have to serve. All I am saying is this is how some people look at it.
I just saw in the news that a guy was just ordered to pay a huge sum of money, sorry I don't have the total, but he flew to Cali and shot her in the head. I wonder what the jail time is for not paying vs the jail time he is going to get for murder. I am not trying to justify his actions just trying to think about what he was thinking. I mean if he just paid that amount of money what would his life be worth versus jail time. I mean is life fun if you are busting your ass and paying more than you can afford for the rest of your life or just sitting in jail. I don't know.
I do know, Who wants to get there child taken away then forced to pay? Maybe instead of enforcing a broken system we re-work the system. Probable cut down on some murders.
-------------------- The problem isn't the game; it is that nobody knows the rules.

What about all of the states remaining where DNA is irrelevent and a man is ALWAYS the legal father of any child his wife conceives while married to him? If I were sitting on the jury deciding the guilt of such a man who was accused of shooting his wife, after being ordered to support her child until it was grown, I believe I would practice "jury nullification" and let him off.*
You know, foolishness like this kind of law is related to a basic problem of democracy in this country today: no politician today is ever willing to take a chance on losing an election because "the people" turned out not to be intelligent enough to get past any initial negative reaction to the idea of an action he knows he should take--such as repeal of the laws under discussion-- and to appreciate, instead, its ultimate justice and correctness. It is always easier, instead, to take the "tried and true" demagogic path of ALWAYS "defending the weak", in this case women and children, even if this results in the worst and most outrageous injustice imagineable.
We see this same disgusting lack of leadership and determination to "play it safe" in politicians not only in the maintaining of anti-male laws, but in other totally unrelated areas as well, and it seems to be getting worse all the time. Maybe it's time to try a different system!
*provided the child was not the result of rape.
