I am curious if ANYONE out there knows the process for applying for food stamps and welfare? What paperwork I may need to bring with me, if my need is because of a divorce, do I need to have my divorce papers with me to prove my need. AND; does anyone know if I truly need to close out my I.R.A to live could I do that WITHOUT being penailized? Tractormom2000@msn.com

the divorce was filed a year ago this july. I live in Nassau County. I was worried that I may need my tax returns as proof of finances. That worried me since I was forced to sign a JOINT RETURN THIS YEAR. I have no income to speak of, but I am currently looking for work. He provides very little. Tractormom2000@msn.com

In my own state, unless you are the primary parent, you can't get any assistance whatsoever, even in 50/50 joint physical custody situations. All single folks, and non-custodial parents here are eligible for $0. Good luck.

Not true! if you are non-custodial, and you can't afford to pay your support, you get help. You get "Support Enforcement" This means you don't have to pay now, but you will pay later with fees and interest. It is called the hard-squeezy plan. Usually ends in ruined life, like owing money to the mob.
