My divorce documents (Ohio) say that my child's father is supposted to keep health insurance on the child, and that he is supposed to pay 70% of medical costs. However, I have always paid 100% of the doctor bills (I have receipts for over $4,000 in doctor bills I have paid), because my ex refuses to pay them. In addition, he has repeatedly let the health insurance lapse (most recently, in 2004, 2006 and 2007), and then I get stuck paying even the amounts the insurance would have paid had the insurance not lapsed. He never notifies me that the insurance has lapsed, so I take the child to the doctor, and that's how I find out - when the insurance refuses payment. He actually pays nothing for the insurance premiums, because they are paid by his employer, as long as he works x number of hours. He takes voluntary layoffs, and therefore, the insurance lapses bc he hasn't enough hours.
This last time it happened, I insisted he pay the dental bill, and he has refused. I am thinking of taking him back to court.
Does anyone know about this part of child support - the medical payments to doctors, dentists, etc.? And, do you think I have a chance in court to get him to pay his portion of these bills?
Thanks,
Maria

Is child support collected through the Ohio Office of Child Support ?

Yes, child support is collected through CSEA. But, only the child support. I have a letter from child support that he is supposed to pay 70% of medical bills over $100.00 in the calendar year - but they won't collect it. They said I would have to get an attorney.
So, I want to do that, but don't know what my chances are of collecting the money - if they will do a wage garnishment, or what.
Thanks,
Maria
