I have been married 27 years. I worked the entire time as did my wife. I make 35k a year and she makes 85k. I am 53 and she is 50. She has found a boyfriend and wants a divorce. We have 2 daughters that because of my job they have their college tuition free. This has saved us over $150k. I now live in apartment and my wife lives in our house. I know I will probably get half our pensions and %50 of the equity of the house which will only be about $15k. My question can i get permanent spousal support as my means of earnings will not increase and hers will. Also the lenght of the marriage and standard of living. We live in Ohio

yes you can. I live in Ohio also I was married 27 years. If there is a big difference in income the spouse with the lower income gets alimony. my X makes 75 a year and I make 24. I get 400 a week. go for it. good luck.

How long will you recieve the $400 a week. Is it permanent. We lived in Cuyahoga county. Did a judge or magistrate hear your case. I am now getting temp. support of $500 a Month. Do you think I can get more when the final decree done. What do I need to do to be sure I get what I deserve.

The temporary order of $500/mo is likely to stick if you fight for it and you have the right judge. It is an uphill battle to get a temporary order adjusted.

I think i deserve more than $500 a month. That will bring her salary still at $79k a year and mine to $41k plus i will have to pay the taxes. I was in this marriage for 27 years and worked everyday. Why now that my wife leave and be rewarded and my standard of living will be 1/3 of hers. Yhis can't be right. I feel i should get aleast $1000k a month. THat still only gives me $47k ayear and her $73k. Is not this fair. I have supported her through her higher education. My kids went to college free because of my job. There has been No adultery on my side ,no alcohol, no abuse, no blowing of money. Even used part of my retirement and some inheritance to upgrade our home. Now she wants to leave and does think I deserve anything, cause she thinks I can make more money. I am 53 and I don't think I will. Whats your thoughts

I don't know since your temp alimony is set at 500 a month. Mine was set at 400 a week from the beginning. Our incomes are about the same as yours only I make the 24 and he makes the 75.we were married 27 years. If I were you I would get a good lawyer. If you have a lawyer it doesn't sound like he is fighting for you interest very hard. believe me my X isn't happy at all about this but I wasn't to happy when he got a girlfriend and tore our family apart. The price of freedom is not cheep. I tell my X that alimony is the screwing he gets for the screwing he got.

With a 27 year marriage, some judges may buy your entitlement argument. A more reasonable judge will see $41K and know you will get along just fine.

I understand you say I will get along fine. But I sacrificed my entire adult life for a family and then When I finish getting our daughter thru college, she walks out and lives a luxurious life and I have to struggle. You call fair. Why does my standard of living have to fall in half what hers will be , because she wants to be with someone else. Like the song says this isn't another time, this is a different world, if that is the way people think and feel that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I think if any judgefeels the way you are saying then it is a bunch of bulls....
