It's still best to get a lawyer... at the VERY least to look over it and make sure you're not getting screwed over. He can make it sound any which way, but on paper it could be something entirely different.
Also keep in mind that a divorce decree does not override your contract with a company, so if your name is on ANYTHING you must get it take off right away so that you're not liable for late payments or whatever he does after it all.

I have an appt. with a lawyer today for a free consultation. I can't afford $2000.00 retainage. No matter what I have to pay it first and then HOPE that I get reimbursed in the end. Even with that much retainage they said they can't guarantee anything.
That is true... there are no guarantees. My attorney only required 500 upfront for a total of $1000 for the divorce... I have heard of others who do the same. Perhaps you could find an attorney who will let you make payments?
