I’m really praying that there’s an attorney out there that can answer this question: is it within a judge’s broad discretion to leave a spouse destitute? I mean, can a judge demand alimony (after a seven year marriage) and child support that exceeds one’s ability to pay, notwithstanding the essential bills that one has to pay (utilities, bread)?
Yes the judge can do that and the put you in jail when you can't pay. If you have enough money you could appeal. What county? Maybe the food is OK. Can you defend yourself? If the jails get too crowded and they start letting murderers go perhaps the general public will begin to suffer too and correct the system. She can't get anything from you in jail, and what more have you got to lose?
