The Spousal Support Handbook The Spousal Support Handbook ($28.99)
Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!

If you've been managing for 4 years without his help, he is likely right. We need more information to be sure, but one of the determining factors of whether or not someone gets alimony/spousal maintenance is if they need it in order to live... and if you've been living for 4 years without it, you'll have a hard time proving that you need it.

You can't get much help based on that info!
Do you both work? Who earns the most? Was there just cause for leaving?
I know of a woman who's husband left, she now gets ove $4k a momth, the house was paid for and given to her and there were no children!
Every situation is different!

It sounds like the expense of the house is what is causing you the financial hardship. Have the two of you discussed selling it? If you have no kids and are living alone maybe a downsize in housing would be a good idea.
