I need some advise on how to get my ex to give me their w2 for college expenses. My divorce decree states that college expenses will be divided "income proportionately". I know the ex makes a huge amount of money compared to mine. So far they are ignoring my requests. Do I file for contempt?
YES! ABSOLUTELY! and if you do enough research, something simple like producing w-2's, you may be able to file all the necessary paperwork without an attorney. Call your local court house, ask for the forms necessary to file, although they cannot give you legal advice you may be able to find a good book on it at the library on how to do it pro se. Also, legal aid could help you. In missouri they just dont have enough funds to get involved in custody or modification cases, but they have names of lawyers they can put you in contact with that will do things based on your income (on a sliding scale). i hope this info is helpful to you! and goodluck!
Financial information is private. Does your decree specifically give you access to your ex's w-2's? If so, your first step would be to have your lawyer write a letter to your ex's lawyer requesting the documents.
