i can't take my husband's crap anymore. As it is he can't keep out of trouble with the cops here and because of what he's done he's cost me TWO places to live and TWO cars. We have a beautiful 2 year old together and i'm pregnant with our 2nd child. But he's put me in a position where i'm 6 months along, can't find a job and i'm not getting any help from the state. All the attorneys here want atleast $1,000 for a retainer and i can't afford it. I also can't use Legal Aid because at one point i had a R.O. against him and he used legal aid against me to fight the R.O. I'm at the end of my rope but can't afford an attorney. Anyone have any ideas? i don't know what to do.

If you haven't already, you can file for divorce without the help of a lawyer. That should give you at least some legal insulation from his nonsense.

I don't have any answers for you beyond that other than to say the bigger problems can't be solved all at once; you have to take them one spoonful at a time.

Jaded,

I am Tabitha White, Author of Child Support Federally Mandated. In my extensive research for this book I interviewed over 40,000 parents across the U.S. I know from conversations with these parents that once you file for divorce, even if it is done on your own, if you apply for state aid, they will automatically step in and collect support for you. This should include spousal support as well as child support.

If you have no immediate place to live and you are pregnant, contact a local church-Catholic Churches are usually the best in this situation. They will put you in contact with a 'safe-house' for you and your children to live at with immediate food and shelter needs being met. The address or name is not going to be found in the phone book as these are usually kept hidden for the safety of the mothers and the children.

Apply for state aid, let them know you are expecting also. There should be no valid reason they are denying you benefits.

Respectfully, Tabitha White, Author
