Unlike child support, spousal support is often very difficult (if not impossible) to modify after the divorce is final, so getting it right the first time is a must!
My stbx purchased our home before we met, my name was never added to the deed. He put his "blood, sweat and tears" into remodeling our home so I opted not to fight him for it. We have only been married for 2.5 years, is there any chance I will receive compensation for not getting to keep our home?
Maybe part of the equity that accrued over the past 2 1/2 years. But before your marriage the value is considered non marital property, as I understand it.

What you will be entitled to is at least half of any increase in equity in the home that happened during the marriage. Let's say the house was worth $100,000 when the two of you got married. And it's worht $150,000 now. You would be entitled to at least half of the $50,000. The rest of it is his.
And given the length of your marriage, you probably get that much alimony, either.
