Hi, i need to get a divorce, I am now living in NY, but me and my wife resided in CT for 3 yrs and the abandonment occured in CT. She returned to japan almost 4 yrs ago, I need a divorce so I can get remarried. I have no been able to contact her by email, her cell phone is no longer in service, and all mail to last known address is returned. what is best cheapest way to get divorce? So we were married total of 4 yrs, we have been apart 4 yrs and I can not find her, she has left the country and returned to Japan. can anyone tell me what forms I need and what proof I need to demonstrate abandonment?
exactly one year in march, but the cause of the divorce happened in CT and we lived there for 3 yrs..I think you need 2 yrs residence in NY to get divorce there? I think I can prove abandonment since she had a pending application for permanent residence at the INS for her, and it was never followed through, right? If i cant get divorce in CT and havent lived in NY long enough, what should I do?
I hate to say this , but I think you're stuck until you meet the 2 year residency requirement for NY . The problem is , NY and Conn residency requirements are so very different . Because you never lived as a couple in NY , you can't file for divorce here until you've been a resident for at least 2 years and you can't divorce in Conn. because you don't meet the residency requirement either . Sorry .
