I have been researching divorce in Arkansas and I am wondering if you can get a divorce without having to be seperated for teh 18 month time frame I keep reading about. I don't see my divorce as being a contested one and do not want to support her for an additional 18 months if it is not needed.
If you seek a nofault divorce , you'll have to wait the 18 months . You can sue for divorce ( or be sued yourself ) under any of the fault grounds without waiting . The fault grounds are ; impotence; adultery; confinement for incurable insanity or separation caused by mental illness for a period of 3 years; conviction of a felony; cruel and inhuman treatment which endangers the life of the spouse; personal indignities; habitual intemperance (drunkenness) for 1 year; commission and/or conviction of an infamous crime; and nonsupport whereby the spouse is able to provide support but willfully fails to provide suitable maintenance for the complaining spouse.

Is there a fualt that is assoiciated with financial irresponsibility or something to that effect. I am also in the military so does that change anything. Why is it that an uncontested/no fault has such a long waiting period. I should be leaving the state before that time period is up and that would cause issues. Is there no way to speed up the process?
In Arkansas one of the grounds for divorce is "General Indignities." It basically states that one spouse has become intollerable to the other for various reasons. If you use that you can bypass the 18 month wait as long as you and your spouse agree that it's best. I would advise talking to a lawyer in detail though.
