What's the first thing I should do?

I don't know what to do. Do I get a lawyer first to file for divorce or do I serve my husband papers? Do these "papers" come from the police?

"papers" are generally considered divorce papers. They are first put together by attorney then served to other spouse with it being recorded by a judge after proof of service is received.
You need an attorney.
