we've been married for a short time and my wife has relatively little assets compare to me. Can I be forced to pay her legal fees in case she refuses to pay for her attorney?
A lot of people ask this and I guess I'm missing something. Isn't it true that when you get married your money becomes blended into one? Then why is it that everyone sees it as mine or hers before the D is final? To me your not paying her legal fees unless the D is already final and your going back for something.
To answer your question the answer is yes. YOu could be required to pay.
If you make considerably more than her, the courts may order you to pay her legal fees. It all depends on the judge and the county where you file.
My attorney told me that it was unlikely that I would get my ex to pay my legal fees, but he put it in the initial filing anyway. Just like my ex did in his paperwork.
